Sad as this may be it's hardly a surprising fact. Modern lifestyles have dramatically altered the way our children play and interact with nature. The article goes on to claim that "...fewer than 1 in 10 children now play regularly in wild places..."
Playing in the countryside expands the imagination, increases understanding and appreciation of the natural world as well as been a great way of improving fitness levels for Kids and Parents alike.
Here in Scarborough we are fortunate to have on our doorstep miles of beach, the beautiful North York Moors and of course Raincliffe &Forge Valley Woods, the latter offering over 400 acres of free and open access. With all this nature around we don't need playgrounds or organised events, nature and a little imagination provides all, just grab the picnic and the kids and go.
